DJB Commissions UGR/BPS at Shalimar Park, Shahdra in Trans Yamuna Area
UGR to benefit a population of around 65,000 residents
New Delhi: The Delhi Jal Board, on 19.02.2015, has commissioned a 7 ML capacity Underground Reservoir (UGR)/Booster Pumping Station (BPS) at Shalimar Park, Shahdra in the Trans Yamuna Area. The construction of the UGR includes laying of peripheral lines of varying diameter in a length of about 1.1 km at a cost of Rs. 12 crores. The commissioning of the UGR and Pumping Station is part of the Delhi Jal Board’s sustained efforts to cover new areas with potable water supply. This is an important step in ensuring that the basic necessity of the residents of the areas is met. This is a part of the mandate of DJB to expand and augment the piped water network services within the city.
The commissioning of the UGR would provide piped water supply at enhanced pressure to the following areas: Old Shahdra group of Companies, Bihari Colony, Bhola Nath Nagar, Shalimar Park, Shalimar Park Extension and their adjoining areas. The water supply will be available daily from 6.00 AM to 8.00 AM in the morning and 6.00 PM to 8.00 PM in the evening. The residents are advised to collect water at the scheduled time.
Currently, DJB meets the needs of the city by providing water from its 7 water treatment plants (WTPs), distributed through a network of 107 primary UGRs and a large number of secondary/local UGRs connected through a web of more than 12,000 km long pipelines. In addition to the supply from surface water sources, DJB uses groundwater through 4,400 tubewells and 10 ranney wells to meet the daily water needs of the residents of Delhi.
The commissioning of the UGR will add another feather in DJB’s cap as it consistently strives to meet its mandate to provide better and more efficient water and sewage services to over 1.8 crore residents of Delhi.
