PRESIDENT CONFERS B C ROY AWARD TO SIR GANGA RAM HOSPITAL DOCTORS
  
President of India , Shri Pranab Mukherjee , today on Tuesday awarded prestigious B.C.Roy awards to two doctors from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital .
They are , Dr D S Rana , Chairman (B.O.M) & Department of Nephrology and Dr Arvind Kumar , Chairman , Department of Chest & Thoracic Surgery , Sir Ganga Ram Hospital . (pics attached)
Dr Rana got  this award in the category of recognising best talents in encouraging the development of specialities in different branches in medicine and Dr Arvind Kumar for the ‘ Eminent Medical Person’ category. 
 
Dr D S Rana graduated in 1972 from Indira Gandhi Medical College and did post graduation in Medicine in 1976 from PGI , Chandigarh and Nephrology in 1980 from AIIMS , Delhi, two premier medical institutes of our country. He is one of the pioneer Nephrologists of India who has established comprehensive nephrology services in Non Govt Sector at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital where he is working since 1981.
 Dr Rana said , ” I am humbled by the by the prestigious award . I hail from a small village Dasmal and had to face hardships during my education . To attend school , I had to travel 12 kms one way and took 3 hours daily to reach school . I owe this award to my late parents who taught me to work hard with sincerity and live with honesty . This award is dedicated to my teacher’s and Gurus who made me what I am today .And not the least to this great institution of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital where I have devoted 35 years of my career .My message to all upcoming medical professionals is that Hard work , sincerity and dedication will always make you succed”  
 
Dr. (Prof.) Arvind Kumar is a  leading Robotic and Thoracic Surgeon who has contributed to the field of medical sciences for almost 30 years.Dr Kumar is the  first surgeon to start Robotic Chest Surgery in India – at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in June 2008. 
 
Dr. (Prof.) Arvind Kumar is presently the Director, Institute of Robotic Surgery and the Chairman of Centre for Chest Surgery & Lung Transplantation at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. It’s under his aegis and efforts that Sir Ganga Ram Hospital has become Asia’s first hospital to deliver successful Robotic Vascular Surgery.
 
The Bidhan Chandra Roy Award was instituted in 1976  in the memory of renowned physician and freedom fighter Dr B C Roy by Medical Council of India .
