7.58 LAKH TEACHERS AND EQUIVALENT ACADEMIC STAFF TO GET BENEFITS OF 7TH PAY COMMISSION
The Union cabinet has approved extension benefit of 7th Pay Commission to teachers of central and state universities and colleges under the purview of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and in Centrally Funded Technical Institutions .
In total, 7.58 lakh teachers and equivalent academic staffs will get benefits of 7th Pay Commission. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the decision has been taken to attract good talent to academics and also as a sense of justice for all the teachers who are currently in the profession.
The new pay scale will be effective from 1st January 2016. The pay hike is in the range of 22-28% and hike of salary based on post will be from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000. In total, currently there are 106 central universities, 329 state universities&12912 government private aided colleges affiliated to State Public Universities. For UGC approved state universities and colleges, states will have to give 50% of the share of salary. Revised pay package will cover teachers of 119 Centrally Funded Technical Institutions viz.IITs, IISCs, NITs etc.
