FATAL BLOW TO CONGRESS ;SENIOR LEADER G K VASAN ANNOUNCE TO FORM HIS NEW PARTY …
Tamil Nadu: Congress today expelled senior leader and former union minister GK Vasan, after he quit the party and announced the formation of a new political outfit.
The expulsion came hours after Vasan said that he has decided to follow a ‘new political path to realise the vision of late Kamraj’.
At a press conference in Chennai, Vasan said the name of the new party and the flag of the party would be announced later at a mega rally in Trichi. However, he chose to keep mum on whether the new party should be seen as the revival of the Tamil Manila Congress (TMC) floated by his father GK Moopanar in 1996 in Tamil Nadu.
Making his announcement, Mr. Vasan said for 14 years since the merger of the TMC with the Congress in 2002, he had worked hard under the leadership of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. But he had to part ways as he felt the Congress was not taking efforts necessary to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu.
“The party had been out of power for 48 years in Tamil Nadu. But no proper efforts have been made to strengthen the party in the State in order to come back to power,” he pointed out.
