“Gaurav Chikna”, a desperate snatcher arrested

“Gaurav Chikna”, a desperate snatcher, involved in about 50 cases of snatchings/robberies arrested.
One loaded pistol and snatched gold jewelry worth Rs. 8 lacs recovered.

A team of STF, South District has arrested a desperate and wanted snatcher namely Gaurav Chikna, aged 24 years s/o Vinod Sharma r/o Indra Park, Palam Colony, New Delhi and recovered snatched gold chains / lockets worth Rs. 8 lacs from his possession.

Brief facts :

There had been many incidents of snatchings in different areas of South Delhi, wherein a few group of snatchers had targeted women folk, going schools, markets, parks, etc. In most of the incidents, culprits had preferred wrong side of the road to ride their motor cycle so that they can escape easily after committing snatching / robbery. The areas of RK Puram, Vasant Vihar, Sarojini Nagar, Malviya Nagar, Mehrauli, Saket, Hauz Khas, Dwarka, Delhi Cantonment, etc. were specially targeted by this gang of snatchers.

In order to curb this menace, South District police launched a special drive in Sub division Safdarjung Enclave area and laid traps to nab these snatchers but sensing discreet police presence, the snatchers did not dare to enter the police trap. But after some time, they again became active in other areas i.e. Vasant Vihar, Malviya Nagar, Mehrauli and Saket. The police teams again launched a special drive in the area of Vasant Vihar to nab the active criminals. The police teams based their planning this time, on the pattern the criminals had used in the past. The police teams also used high speed private motor cycles which could compete the motor cycles of criminals. Around 30 teams were formed, two officials on each motor cycle with arms and wireless sets. The teams took their position on the wrong side of the road at isolated places to intercept the snatchers. The members of police team kept on moving on the road so that they could not be identified by the criminals but kept an eye on the movements of women roaming around the area.

The strategy of the police bore fruits and one of the criminals namely Gaurav Chikna, who got down from the motor cycle to snatch a chain in the area of Shanker Vihar near NH-8 was nabbed by the STF staff consisting SI Vikas, SI Shashikant, ASI Tara Chand, HCs Vinod, Umesh, Randhawa, Ajit, Sachin who had laid trap in the area under the supervision of Inspr. Rajender Singh, I/C STF, South District. On search, a loaded pistol and snatched / robbed gold chains / locket was also recovered from his possession. His other associate, who was later identified as Javed r/o Raghubir Nagar, Delhi managed to escape from the spot on motor cycle.

Interrogation :

During interrogation, accused Gaurav Chikna disclosed that he is a member of Bada Gaurav Gang of Jherera. Bada Gaurav is presently lodged in jail in snatchings, robberies and murder cases. After he went to jail, Gaurav Chikna commanded the gang, consisting 7-8 active snatchers namely Jhindu, Javed, Chetan r/o Palam, Chetan r/o Jherera, Suja Sansi r/o Pratap Nagar and Om Prakash. They all commit snatching in South and South West Delhi and give major share to their gang leader ‘Bada Guarav’. Accused Gaurav Chikna further disclosed that their gang has committed about 50 incidents of snatchings since they came out of the jail in the month of February, 2014. Gaurav Chikna is earlier involved in 15 cases of snatchings, robberies and NDPS Act. He is BC of PS Sagarpur.

Efforts are on to arrest other accused persons and to recover more snatched / robbed properties.
