Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai Launches Logo of Car Free Day

 

  •        Delhi Transport Minister Shri Gopal Rai today Launched  Logo of Car Free Day. He said that to reduce the congestion and pollution in Delhi the campaign ‘Ab Bus Karen’ is being launched on October 22, 2015.
  • Shri Rai said that the event will be marked with the participation of  Shri Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister and Shri Manish Sisodia, Dy.Chief Minister in a cycle rally which will start from Red Fort at 7:00 AM. and terminate at Bhagwan Dass Marg parking.  Members of Legislative Assembly shall be joining this cycle rally.

 

  • On this day, the Car Free Day will be celebrated from 7:00 AM to 12:00 noon on the road stretch connecting Red Fort to India Gate via Delhi Gate and ITO.

 

  • Every month on 22nd day a new stretch will be identified for Car Free Day to involve people’s participation.

 

  • Transport Minister, Govt. of NCT of Delhi will have a ‘Bus ride and an interaction’ with the media persons from parking site near Bhagwan Dass Marg at 11:00 AM onwards on 22nd October,2015.  This ride will terminate at origin point after covering the entire stretch to Red Ford and back.

 

 

  • Transport Minister said that to make the Car Free Day successful, interactive sessions were held with various NGOs, market associations, all MLAs, representative of NCC & NSS and corporate sector on 09.10.2015.  Another interaction was held on 19.10.2015 at Khalsa College wherein students have evinced a lot of interest in spreading the message of Car Free Day and ensure participation with assistance of NCC & NSS.

 

  • Additional buses of DTC will be deployed on this route for better facilitation of commuters.  Some Auto Drivers will provide free service to support the campaign.

 

 

 

Initiative taken by Govt for betterment of public transport

 

 

  1. Transport Department has invited Expression of Interest (EOI) at global level from the companies to provide CNG and electric buses in different capacities.  Based on this EOI the procurement of buses will be done for arterial roads and other feeder buses for smaller size roads.

 

  1. After a detailed exercise with Transport Department and DIMTS, development of land sites for cluster bus depots has been finalized at following locations :-

 

(i)           Karkari Nahar(5 Acres)  and Rewla Khanpur(4 Acres)   –  DTTDC

(ii)          Dichaon Kalan (5 Acres)& Dwarka Sector-22 (5 Acres) –  DIMTS

(iii)        Rani Khera(19 Acres)   –  DSIIDC

 

These depots will be constructed by DTTDC, DSIIDC and DIMTS and operations will begin by March,2016.

 

  1. DTC is also in the process of procuring 1000 buses under cluster scheme wherein depot space will be provided by DTC itself.

 

  1. The re-launch of Poochho App for auto and taxi drivers is being done wherein all auto drivers are being given facility to update their mobile phone by sending SMS a space vehicle no. space chasis no. (last 4 digits) to phone no.9311900800.  This will help auto drivers to increase ridership and income.

 

  1. A comprehensive pollution drive has been started wherein 693 pollution checking centres have been connected with on-line server which will update the PUC certification issuance on real time basis.  In next 3 months, cameras will also be installed at few locations on pilot basis to identify the vehicles which have not obtained the PUC certificates.

 

  1. DTC has improved its operational performance and a special campaign to reduce the number of breakdown of DTC buses was launched which was successful.  Similarly the number of buses of out shedding has also increased which has added more buses for commuters.

 

  1. In association with Delhi Dialogue Commission, trial run of Wi-Fi and CCTV cameras in buses will be carried out by December, 2015 to identify the suitable technology and implementation.

 

  1. Already 1300 marshals from Home Guards are performing duties in evening shift in DTC buses.  As a new initiative, 200 private guards will be deployed in 2 months time by selecting an agency through tender process.  EOI is being issued shortly.

 

  1. DTC has also given a Work order for automatic fare collection system by a tender process and the technology provider has already started the work.  Pilot already in process.  Pilot will be done by 31.03.2015 in 200 buses and in next 6 months all buses will be covered.

 

  1. For better facilitation of commuters in metro trains, it has been decided to increase frequency so that more people can travel in public transport system.
