Consultation by Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights with District Magistrates of Delhi on missing children, child labour and other child relates issues
- Active involvement of District Magistrates and Sub-Divisional Magistrates, there shall be better results in tracking of missing children
Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights had a detailed consultation with District Magistrates of 11 districts of NCT of Delhi and Labour Department on the issue of missing children, child labour and important matters relating to implementation of child rights. An emphasizes was laid on identification of vulnerable areas on the basis of past data which have reported high incidents of cases of missing children.
The collection of data and identification of such vulnerable areas would help in formulating a strategy for creating preventive intelligence network with the help of police and civil society. RWAs and NGOs could work as watchdogs and suggest preventive measures to the Sub-Divisional Magistrates for corrective action.
Similarly, on issues of child labour it was emphasized that the Sub-Divisional Magistrates must have regular inspections of those industrial units which are suspected to be engaging child labour. Industrial units such as garment making, weaving and readymade have in the past shown considerable number of child labour being engaged. The Commission desired that Sub-Divisional Magistrates should conduct surprise checks at their own on the basis of the data of these units which could be obtained from Labour Department, Factory Licensing Department and Delhi Pollution Control Committee.
Chairperson, DCPCR Sh. Ramesh Negi hoped that with the active involvement of District Magistrates and Sub-Divisional Magistrates there shall be better results in tracking of missing children and in the eradication of child labour as the long term strategy. It was also decided that the Commission shall have also regular interaction with local police and NGOs at district level to facilitate better coordination in the times to come.
