The Voice that stirred the soul is no more-Singing Legend Manna Dey dies at 94
Bollywood’s legendary singer Manna Dey who left his audience spell bounded by his golden voice died today following a long ailment.
Dey, 94, who was admitted to Narayana Hrudayalaya five months ago for respiratory problems, died of cardiac arrest at 3:50 am.Dey is survived by two daughters, one of whom is based in the US.
Dada Sahab Phalke award winner, Manna Dey was born on May 1, 1919. He attended Scottish Church Collegiate School and followed by Vidyasagar College where he did his graduation. During college days, Manna Da used to sing to entertain his friends.
Initially trained under his uncle Krishna Chandra Dey, and then honed his singing under the tutelage of stalwarts like Ustad Aman Ali Khan and Ustad Abdul Rahman Khan.
In 1942, Dey accompanied uncle Krishna Chandra Dey on a visit to Bombay, where he worked as an assistant under his uncle Krishna Chandra Dey, and then under legendary music composer Sachin Dev Burman.
