The Interceptor Sewer Project is a major initiative being undertaken by Delhi Jal Board to tackle the issue of sewage pollution in the river Yamuna. The interceptor sewers are being laid along the three major drains i.e. Najafgarh, Supplementary and Shahdara. This would ensure that the three major drains, which account for 75% of the pollution problem, receive only treated effluent and, therefore, the quality of water entering the river will improve greatly.
