ONE COMPLETE UNCURE SKIN OF LEOPARD RECOVERED WITH THE ARREST OF WILDLIFE ANIMAL SKIN DEALER BY AATS

With the arrest of Sher Singh Chauhan S/o Roop Singh Chauhan R/o H.No.Vill. & P.O. Bonda, P.S. SardhanBushar, Tehsil- Rampur, District- Simla (H.P.) Age 40Yrs, a team of AATS, Outer District with SI Sumit Kumar of Anti- Snatching Cell, Outer District and officials of Wildlife,GOI under the leadership of Inspector Jai Pal Singh and in the close supervision of Sh. OmvirBhati ACP/OPERATI0NS Outer district has busted a wildlife animal skin trafficking channel operating from Himachal Pradesh and recovered one uncured Leopard skin.

INCIDENT

Case FIR No 761/14 dated 21/07/14 u/s 39, 48, 49,49(b)(1) & 51 Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 P.S. SP Badli, Delhi On 21.07.2014, at 1 PM, Secret informer came to the office of AATS, Outer District and gave information to Ct. Sohan Lal Tyagi No. 1056/OD about a person selling Leopard skin illegally and would come at Service Road near CNG Pump, Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, Karnal By-pass, Delhi. Accordingly a team, comprising of SI Sumit Kumar of Anti-Snatching Cell, ASI Sajjan Pal, HC Balraj, Ct. Sohan Lal Tyagi & Ct. Satish of AATS alongwith Insp. Wildlife V.B. Dasan & Insp. R.R. Meena was constituted & briefed by Inspector Jai Pal Singh, Incharge, AATS, Outer District. Sh. OmvirBhati/ACP/Operations, Outer District was informed about the information. He instructed to proceed immediately. Accordingly above raiding party apprehended Sher Singh Chauhan S/o Roop Singh Chauhan R/o H.No. Vill. & P.O. Bonda, P.S. SardhanBushar, Tehsil- Rampur, District- Simla (H.P.) Age 40 Yrs at the said place and an uncured leopard skin was recovered from his possession. The Leopard skin was identified by the Wildlife officials present in the joint raid, the possession, selling or buying of which is prohibited vide Schedule-I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972.Sher Singh Chauhan was not having any valid permission from the competent authority for possession of the skin. Therefore, the recovered uncured Leopard skin was seized as per procedure. Above cited FIR was registered on this recovery and accused was arrested.

TEAM & INVESTIGATION

A team comprising of SI Sumit Kumar of Anti-Snatching Cell, ASI Sajjan Pal, HC Balraj, Ct. Sohan Lal Tyagi & Ct. Satish of AATS alongwith Insp. Wildlife V.B. Dasan& Insp. R.R. Meena was constituted & briefed by Inspector Jai Pal Singh, Incharge, AATS,Outer District. Sh. OmvirBhati/ACP/Operations, Outer District was informed about the information. He instructed to proceed immediately. Accordingly above raiding party apprehendedSher Singh Chauhan S/o Roop Singh Chauhan R/o H.No. Vill. & P.O. Bonda, P.S. SardhanBushar, Tehsil- Rampur, District- Simla (H.P.) Age 40 Yrs at Service Road near CNG Pump, Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, Karnal By-pass, Delhi and an uncured leopard skin was recovered from his possession which was identified by the Wildlife officials present in the joint raid. Accused Sher Singh Chauhan disclosed that he had purchased this leopard skin from one of his known person near his village in Himachal Pradesh. Sher Singh Chauhan had come to Delhi from his village 2-3 days back to sell this Leopard skin knowing that the value of the skin was around 5 Lakhs in International market and would fetch a handsome price in Delhi.

INTERROGATION & MODUS OPERANDI

During interrogation, it has been revealed that around 2 months back, accused Sher Singh Chauhan met one of his known person living near his village who told him that he has a Leopard skin to sell and asked him to find an appropriate buyer for the skin. Sher Singh Chauhan offered to purchase the skin and after paying a partial amount, took the leopard skin from the known person. He promised to pay the remaining amount later. He then came to Delhi 2-3 days back and on 21.07.14 in the evening came to Service Road near CNG Pump, Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, Karnal By-pass, Delhi for selling the skin to some appropriate buyer. The information had reached to the police and Sher Singh Chauhan was apprehended alongwith the Leopard skin after a joint raid of police & Wildlife officials. Efforts are being made to apprehend the known person of the accused from Himachal Pradesh.

RECOVERY

One uncured Leopard skin having value of Rs.5 Lakhs in International market recovered from the accused.
