January 20, 2026, New Delhi

Nitin Nabin today took over the office of the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, January 20.

Succeeding JP Nadda, Nabin has officially become the youngest national president and is beginning a new chapter for the party, as it seeks to tighten its grip on politics in the country.

He was born on 23 May 1980 in Ranchi, Jharkhand, to the late Shri Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, senior BJP leader and a four-time Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from Patna West, and late Smt. Meera Sinha. His early education was completed at St. Michael’s High School, Patna, from where he passed the CBSE Class X examination in 1996. He subsequently pursued his senior secondary education at CSKM Public School, New Delhi, completing his Intermediate examination in 1998. He is married to Smt. Deepmala Shrivastava, and the couple have two children – a son and a daughter.

Nitin Nabin is a senior Indian politician and the National Working President of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is a five-time Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and former Minister in the Government of Bihar. He is widely recognised for his sustained organisational acumen and administrative experience.

Nitin Nabin entered electoral politics at a young age and was first elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2006 from the Patna West Assembly Constituency. Since 2010, he has been consecutively elected from the Bankipur Assembly Constituency, securing victories in 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025, thereby becoming a five-time continuous MLA. He has also held key portfolios like Road Construction, Urban Development & Housing and Law in the Bihar Government as a Cabinet Minister.

Alongside his legislative career, he has played a significant role in party organisation, where he held national- and state-level leadership positions. He has also been entrusted with important organisational responsibilities in states such as Sikkim and Chhattisgarh.

Nabin became the 12th president of the BJP, which was founded in 1980, the same year he was born. His political journey has been significantly influenced by Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s leadership style. He was elected unopposed as the BJP’s national president without a contest, as he was the only candidate after the nomination process.

Responding to Nabin’s win, PM Modi declared that the young leader will be his boss in all party-related matters. Modi described the 45-year-old Nabin as a “millennial” with youthful energy and vast experience in the organisation, which will prove to be of immense help for the party.
