HIMMAT SOS APP FOR WOMEN LAUNCHED BY UNION HOME MINISTER IN JANUARY THIS YEAR NOW AVAILABLE FOR IPHONE USERS TOO VIA APPLE STORE

“HIMMAT SOS APP FOR IPHONES”

With effect from today the Himmat SOS App for women which was initially launched on 01.01.2015 by the Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, will also be available for iphone users. The Himmat App can be downloaded from the Apple App Store w.e.f today.
The Windows version of Himmat app will also be launched very shortly.
The Android version of Himmat has seen 35080 downloads since the day of launch. It has inspired confidence in the users and this is leading to the steady rise in downloads and registrations, just by word of mouth publicity.
As of today, (19.03.2015) we have received more than 2000 SOS alerts from the public, w.e.f. date of launch on 01.01.2015. About 1500 have been from Delhi, about 200 from the NCR region and about 600 from other parts of the country, and about 8 from abroad. Since it is the first time that such a service is being made available to the public, most of these calls have logically been made to test the app. During this initial use by citizens, PCR vans & local police have intervened on more than 45 occasions when the user at the other end did not respond to the first callback from the Himmat team at the Police Control Room. Apart from tests, citizens have also started using Himmat App for SOS during domestic violence, stalking calls, persons gone missing etc.
It is relevant to mention that the Himmat App for Android & Apple phones is one of the 6 avenues available to women in the city to get immediate help when in distress. The other avenues are:-

With the highest number of calls i.e. 51,732 coming in on Anti-obscene helpline-1096 in 2014, a total of 72,930 calls of various kinds have been received in the Police Control Room from women through all the above lines. Of the other distress calls received, the highest number of calls are about domestic violence & eve-teasing. These are extremely relevant social indicators.
To further our mission for a safe Delhi for women, we also launched the Himmat Whats app & Hike groups on Phone No. 8800001091 on 25/2/2015. All girls & women in Delhi can now send us photos/details of the taxi/auto they are boarding and other details which will boost their confidence during travel and also be a deterrent for errant drivers. There is very encouraging engagement with citizens on these groups with more than 11,000 messages received on various issues which have been responded to. However regrettably, we are also getting quite a few obscene photographs & videos on the recently launched Himmat Whats app & Hike groups. We are going to launch prosecution against all those numbers from whom we have received such videos & photos.
