“POLICE MITRA” INITIATIVE LAUCHNED IN DELHI POLICE

 

Delhi police has launched today an institutionalized initiative “Police Mitra” as an endeavor to involve members of civil society in prevention of crime, maintenance of law and order and for better communication with citizens as a whole to ensure improved social orderliness.

Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Sh. Alok Kumar Verma, IPS rolled out the scheme in a spectacular inaugural launch event at Dusshera Ground, Sec-10, Dwarka, New Delhi. The “Police Mitra” scheme today has been launched in the South-Western Police Range of Delhi comprising of West District and South-West District.  A total of 284 Police Mitras including 49 females have been enrolled in this startup.

 

Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Sh. Narendra Modi during DG and IG’s conference last year had suggested to enroll Police Mitra in all the police stations of the country for better citizens friendly effective policing.  This Delhi Police institutionalized initiative is a step forward towards the inspirational suggestion of the Hon’ble Prime Minister.

Commissioner of Police distributed Police Mitra arm bands and ID cards to all the enrolled Police Mitras on the occasion.  All the enrolled members of the scheme had to pass through a rigorous verification process as per the detailed Standing Order issued by Delhi Police.  They all come from the various walks of life and have expressed commitment to work with Delhi Police for making Delhi a better and safer place.  They come from varied background of farmers, house wives, self employed individuals, Jhuggi dwellers, social workers, retired officials, students, advocates, Ex-army etc. and from all the age groups.

CP Delhi in his address congratulated and extended hearty welcome to all the Police Mitras enrolled and present on the occasion.  He expressed gratitude towards them for accepting the additional responsibility of assisting Delhi Police in various police duties like crime prevention, crowd management, traffic management, safety of women, children and senior citizens etc.  CP Delhi reminded all newly enrolled Police Mitras of their role of high responsibility, personal initiative with integrity and a good role model in their local community. CP Delhi announced that this scheme will be rolled out in the entire Delhi very shortly.  Commissioner of Police, Delhi, lauded the Police Mitras for their proactive role in last few days by assisting police in the ongoing demonetization facilitation arrangements at Banks, ATMs, Post Offices and Petrol pump
