NTPC Contribution to Tamil Nadu’s Power Requirement

Shri I. J. Kapoor, Director (Commercial ) NTPC met Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Miss J Jayalalitha at State Secretariat in Chennai and apprised her on progress of work at Vallur Super Thermal Power Project, a joint venture project between NTPC and TNEB, which is in advanced stage. NTPC meets about 17% to 18% of Tamil Nadu’s total power requirement. Shri Natham R Viswanathan, Hon’ble Minister For Electricity of the State, Shri Debendranath Sarangi, IAS, Chief Secretary; Shri Ramesh Kumar Khanna, IAS, Principal Secreatary, Energy; Shri K. Shanmugam, IAS, Principal Secretary, Finance; Shri Rajeev Ranjan, Chairman TNEB, Shri R Venkateswaran, Regional Executive Director (South), NTPC, and Shri T.S.Sundararajan, Addl General Manager(Commercial), NTPC were also present on this occasion.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu appreciated NTPC’s contribution to the power needs of the State.

NTPC at present has a total installed capacity of over 36000 MW contributing around 28% of the total electricity generated in the country.
