KOCHI METRO TO BE READY ON TIME SAYS CM OOMMEN CHANDY

Kochi: Kochi Metro, the Rs.5,180 dream project that is expected to solve the travel woes in Kerala’s commercial capital, would be completed in ‘a time bound manner’, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

Chandy said that the train would be extended to Kakkanad and Tripunithara in the first phase itself. In the second phase the services would be extended to Fort Kochi and Angamaly. The govt has also decided to takeover land along the Vytilla-Tripunithara route at a fast pace.

Chandy Monday went around the construction site, before taking part in the director board meeting of Kochi Metro Rail Limited.

‘The work is progressing well and would be completed in a time bound manner,’ said Chandy.

The mega project will run 25 km from Alwaye to Petta.

The project is being managed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation with its principal advisor E. Sreedharan overseeing it.

According to Chandy, the first train would run Dec 31, 2015.

The central government’s share of funds is close to Rs.1,000 crore, with the rest coming by way of loans which the state government will avail from funding agencies.

This project was first talked about way back in 2005 when Chandy was the chief minister but it later went into limbo, only to return in full steam when he assumed office in 2011.
