DJB to maintain normal water supply during Upper Ganga Canal Maintenance work
There are some reports in a section of media regarding closure of the Upper Ganga Canal, which is a source of raw water for the NCT of Delhi. It is clarified that this is a routine maintenance work by Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department and is carried out annually by the UP Irrigation Department.
Delhi Jal Board, in view of the situation, has already taken precautionary measures to ensure that the closure of the Upper Ganga Canal, during maintenance period, does not affect the water supply in the capital city. Sonia Vihar and Bhagirathi Water Treatment Plant draw raw water from the canal. As an alternate, raw water shall be made available to both the plants from the on-line storage in the Upper Ganga Canal and from the river Yamuna. Both the Water Treatment Plants are expected to function at their optimum capacity, as the raw water will be available as required.
Delhi Jal Board, therefore, does not foresee any disruption in the water supply and assures its consumer that the water supply will remain normal.
