Delhi Police launch DAAN, a special blood donation drive for dengue
New Delhi, OctobeR, 2015: In view of the rising number of dengue cases in the city and spike in demand for blood platelettes, Delhi Police has launched a special campaign on blood donation on October 7,2015 called DAAN (Donation & Awareness for Needy). Today (07.10.2015) a Special Blood Donation Camp was organized at PHQ lawn in collaboration with Red Cross Society. Total 208 police personnel donated their blood.
Mr. B.S. Bassi, Commissioner of Police, Delhi said “This is yet another effort by us to contribute meaningfully when Delhi is in the midst of the worst dengue outbreak in last two decades. Through this program, we wish to reiterate our motto – With You, For You Always. We have also prepared a list about 300 police personnel who will provide their blood on need basis in any part of Delhi. Their contact numbers will be provided to the Society.”
He further added that “DAAN will be an ongoing program where we shall organize donation camps to ensure all the needy get blood. DAAN or donation is an intrinsic Indian value and even as we have lived and breathed it, we thought it was time to demonstrate it as well. The program has been designed to instill values of compassion and care among policemen.”
Delhi has so far reported over 7600 cases of dengue, which is twice the number in 2010, which had seen 3555 cases. Also the death toll at 25 this year has been highest ever since 1996.
