To prevent from fire accidents and mishaps in life, citizen should adopt safe housekeeping practice and should use approved electrical appliances in their daily life either it their house or commercial establishments. This was stated by

Delhi Home Minister Sh. Satyender Jain on the occasion of the pinning of Fire Service Flag organized by Delhi Fire Service at Delhi Secretariat today.

Delhi Fire Service is organizing “Fire Service Week” in the capital from 14-20 April in which citizens would be inform, educate and communicate about the importance of adopting fire safety norms as the proverb prevention is better than cure is more truthful in the case of fire.

 

Sh. Satyender Jain informed that the major emphasis during the Fire Service Week would be to propagate the prevention of fire safety norms and to generate fire safety awareness in the society. In order to eliminate/minimize fire hazards in the high rise buildings, industries, business establishments, rural/city areas and other properties, the Delhi Fire Service was being conducted demonstrations, fire safety audit of industrial complexes to educate people.

 

Minister also said that the Delhi Fire Service has 58 fire stations including Supreme Court and Parliament House Fire Posts. In order to reduce the response time, a target of 72 fire stations was planned during the 11th Five year plan. The remaining 14 fire stations have now been included in 12th Five year plan. Delhi Fire Service provides fire safety cover over to NCT of Delhi in an area of about 1483 Sq. Km. Beside this our resources are also deployed to manage the devastating fires/ emergencies out of NCT on the demand of NDMA/ competent authority.

He further added that the government would strengthen the response System in the fire situation. Government of NCT of Delhi has allotted Gram Sabha Land measuring 14 acres at Village Budhanpur Majra, District North West for establishment of fire training institute, which will be settled up on the lines of fire service college Moreton in Marsh London.

 

Sh. A. K. Sharma, Director, Delhi Fire Service and a team of officers, today visited the office of Home Minister Sh. Satyender Jain for pinning of fire service flag and collection of donation for Delhi Fire Service benevolent fund. The Minister was apprised of the various activities Delhi Fire Service Official undertake during Fire Service Week and the activity folder was handed over by the Director, Delhi Fire Service to the Minister.

In pursuant to the directives of the Govt. of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, fire services all over the country observe Fire Service Week, every year, starting from 14th April. This is to commemorate and pay homage to 66 firemen and officers of the Mumbai Fire Brigade, who lost their lives while fighting a major fire in a ship “FORT STIKINE” in the year 1944. The ship was loaded with cotton bales, ammunition, oil drums, etc. During the fire-fighting operation, a series of explosion caused devastating damage not only to the dock area but also affected the civil population within a range of one kilometer.
