The plant was ready to be commissioned in the year 2003 but could not be commissioned. The entire equipment has now been made operational with great difficulty by DJB and the civil structure has been revamped. The trial run of the Bawana WTP has been carried out by diverting raw water from the Nangloi/Haider WTPs and the plant is presently treating about 5-6 MGD water. Intensive efforts are being made to increase the production from the current capacity to 10 MGD capacity, in a phased manner.

Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi said, “It is a matter of immense pleasure that the Plant has been commissioned and the residents will get water through the plant. I must congratulate DJB for their concerted effort in running the plant despite limited available resources. I am sure this will bring relief to the residents of the areas.”

Sh. Manish Sisodia, the Chairperson of the DJB also expressed happiness and said, “DJB has done a commendable job and running this plant is an example of their efforts to provide
potable water by overcoming the challenges. I believe that, through their constant endeavour, DJB will be able to provide the city with efficient and consumer- centric Water and Wastewater services in the city. But water needs to be conserved, specially rain water and the water Conservation has been in practice in India since time immemorial, now popularly called Rain Water Harvesting. It is imperative to recharge the rapidly depleting groundwater level and people should join hands with the Government to take up Rain Water Harvesting. “.
The CEO, DJB, speaking on the occasion said, ” with an efficient water management system and rationalization of water distribution in the city, DJB has managed to start the plant. The Plant will benefit a population of about 6 lakh people and the UGR will enhance the water supply under the command area which will ultimately benefit more than 10 lac people. The Board strives to meet the water needs of the city, with the limited raw water availability”.
Commissioning of the plant will provide drinking water in the areas of Bawana, Mungesh Pur, Qutub Garh, Auchandi, Nangal, Darya Pur, Sultan Pur Dabas, Majra Dabas, Pooth Khurd, Chand Pur Khurd, Karala, Kanjhawala, Madan Pur Dabas, Jounti, Nizam Pur, Ghevra, etc. The water to the 6 MGD capacity Underground Reservoir will be made available through the Bawana WTP. The water to the UGR will also be made available through Palla Ranney Wells and Tube wells. Commissioning of the UGR will supply water in the command areas of Bankner, Ghoga, Lampur, Bankner U/A Colonies, Bawana DSIDC, Bawana JJR, Ghoga Dairy, Ghoga U/A Colonies, and Lampur U/A Colonies at enhanced pressure. Earlier the water was being supplied from tube wells at low pressure. Earlier, the waster was being supplied in the area through Tube Wells and Ranney Wells at a very low pressure. With the commissioning of the UGR, the water from the Tube Wells and Ranney Wells will be diverted to Narela which has very limited water supply through DJB.
With the commissioning of the Bawana WTP, DJB has taken a step further towards providing more equitable water services in the city and this step has strengthened the mandate of the Board to bring the entire city under the distribution network of the Delhi Jal Board. In addition, DJB has taken a slew of steps to bring in efficiency and transparency for optimum resource management. DJB is also focussing on consumer-oriented initiatives for direct interaction with the consumers and in line with it, DJB has launched the 24×7 Customer Care Call Centre on toll free no. 1916, Mobile Application (for Android), Online Complaint registration on DJB website, DJB Facebook Page and improved Revenue Management System for online bill payment and other facilities related to water and sewer.
