An IPS OFFICER AND THREE COPS LOSE GALLANTARY MEDALS
The MInistry of Home affairs has been getting tough with cops found indulging in corrupt practices. In the past five months, it has withdrawn gallantry medals awarded to Madhya Pradesh police’s additional SP Dharmendra Choudhary, Punjab police sub-inspector Gurmeet Singh, and Jharkhand police sub-inspector Lalit Kumar in view of their alleged involvement in criminal acts and corruption that “soiled reputation of the police.”
Gurmeet Singh was stripped of the police medal for gallantry, awarded to him in 1997, after the MHA came to know in July 2015 that he had been convicted and sentenced in a murder case in 2006. After confirming the information with the Punjab police, Singh’s medal was withdrawn. The same happened with Additional SP Choudhary and SI Kumar.
It is pointed out that gallantry award winners are expected to maintain a clean reputation and high moral character at all times. If any past or future act of a criminal nature, misconduct or corruption comes to the notice of the Union government, it reserves the right to recall the honor after due verification
