1470 POST OF INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES VACANT : DOPT

There is an alarming number of seats vacant for the most desirous post of IAS .

1,470 posts of IAS are vacant despite Government efforts to augment the strength of the cadre.

The highest number of vacancies for IAS officers are in the state of Bihar closely followed by Uttar Pradesh.

The shortage of IAS officers has reached an alarming level, according to the Parliamentary Committee.

Significantly, the shortfall in the requirement has reached at such a level that it could take another decade to fill the gap, the committee said in its latest report.

Interestingly, the Committee observed that almost all the organizations and institutions under the Ministry were facing acute staff shortage and vacancies in these organizations were a persistent problem and DoPT could not escape from its responsibility of ensuring adequate staffing.

Admitting the shortfall, DoPT Minister Jitendra Singh stated in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha yesterday that as per the IAS Civil List of 2016, the authorized strength of IAS officers as on 01.01.2016 is 6,396 out of which 1,470 posts are vacant.

The Government has taken steps to address the issue of shortage of IAS officers which include; increase in the annual intake of IAS officers to 180 during last four years, in promotion quota prompt action has been taken for holding Selection Committee Meeting for appointment by promotion/selection of State Service officers in IAS, the Minister said.
