SJVN Ltd. to spend Rs.1500 lacs on CSR Initiatives during FY 2012 2013

As a major initiative to improve the lot of people living in the vicinity of its project areas SJVN has allocated a budget of ` 1500 lacs during the financial year 2012-13 for undertaking various activities. For the financial year 2012-13 a CSR budget equivalent to 1.5% of the Profits After Tax (PAT) of the previous financial year has been made in the MoU entered into with the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India recently.
A major focus will be on the construction of community infrastructural assets like village paths, community halls, augmentation of schools and technical institutions in the vicinity of its projects in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. SJVN will spend `450 lacs during the year 2012-13 on these activities.
Another initiative to improve public health in the project affected villages would be installation of garbage disposal containers at a cost of ` 50 lac. These containers will be operated through the project affected Panchayats.
For the health care of local people, SJVN will provide free consultancy and medicines to the project affected people through a Mobile Van on account of which a provision of ` 26 lac has been made. Other initiatives are technical skills upgradation for local youth and imparting technical know how to the farmers through horticulture/veterinary/agriculture camps etc. In order to promote Energy Conservation and to popularize usage of renewable sources of energy, SJVN has earmarked ` 100 lacs towards installation of solar water heaters, distribution of solar lanterns and setting up street lights in Project Affected Areas. As a part of its Silver Jubilee Celebrations, the Company is also launching SJVN Merit Scholarship scheme for H.P. Through this scheme 100 meritorious students styding in XII class will be selected in the year 2012-13 through state level competitive exam. They will be given ` 2,000 p.m. scholarship to persue their next degree/diploma during the duration of the course. This year a budget of ` 24 lacs has been earmarked for this scheme.
Under the sustainable development activities SJVN will provide budget for sewerage treatment plant, rain water harvesting, land rehabilitation, solar light system, drinking water supply schemes besides afforestation and agricultural development, etc. The achievements under various heads of activities are regularly monitored and evaluated under the targets of MoU which is signed every year with the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India.
