Sheila Dikshit,Chief Minister of Delhi and Chairperson, Delhi Jal Board, inaugurates the work of laying of sewer lines in Batla House area of Okhla Assembly Constituency
New Delhi: Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi and Chairperson, Delhi Jal Board, inaugurated the work of laying of sewer lines in Batla House area of Okhla Assembly Constituency, on 22nd September 2013. Sh. Asif Mohammad Khan, Member DJB and MLA, Okhla Legislative Constituency, Sh. Shamim Ahmad, Councillor, Smt. Debashree Mukherjee, CEO DJB, Sh. R.S.Tyagi, Member (Drainage) DJB and other officials of Delhi Jal Board were present on this occasion.
Speaking on this occasion, Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi and Chairperson, Delhi Jal Board said that, ” It has been a continuous endeavour of our government to provide better sanitation facilities to the residents of Delhi. Our government has made efforts to extend sewerage facilities to the unsewered areas of Delhi. Around 1.10 lakh residents of Okhla Assembly Constituency area will benefit from this project.”
Delhi Jal Board has prepared schemes for laying of sewerage system in unsewered areas to improve sanitation, social conditions and to provide a pollution free environment for the residents in these areas of Delhi. These schemes will also help in reducing pollution in the river Yamuna.
Accordingly, Delhi Jal Board has taken up the work of Providing & Laying internal and peripheral sewer lines in colonies of Batla House, Gaffoor Nagar, Okhla Village, Okhla Vihar, Noor Nagar, Noor Nagar extension, Gaffar Manzil, Hazi Colony, Jasola and Harkesh Nagar in Okhla Assembly Constituency area. The work involves laying of 53.61 kms of new pipelines. The cost of this project is Rs. 52.78 crores approx. The project is likely to be completed within 3 years.
Some of the salient features of this project are: The house sewer connections shall be laid during the execution of the work which will prevent road cutting while joining the house sewer connection at a later stage, reduce expenditure of beneficiaries in connecting their house sewer connections and prevent breaking of manholes; the road shall be restored by MCD at the cost of Delhi Jal Board and the sewer pipes shall be of High Density Polyethylene material, the life of which is more than 50 years.
