Ottavio Quattrocchi Bofors scam accused dies of heart attack

Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi has died, a report said on Saturday. According to reports, Quattrocchi died of a cardiac arrest in Milan.

The 72-year-old Quattrocchi, once considered a friend of the Gandhi family, was allegedly one of the major players in the Bofors gun scandal

The scandal which erupted in the later 1980s was considered one of the reasons for the defeat of the Rajiv Gandhi-led Congress party in the 1989 General Elections. In 2009, however, a Delhi court discharged Quattrocchi from the pay-offs case after allowing the prosecuting agency, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to withdraw charges against him.
