Delhi Social Welfare Minister inaugurates Nav Kiran-I & Nav Kiran-II Half way/long stay homes for women in Rohini

Delhi, November 15, 2017

The Delhi Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam today inaugurated the Nav Kiran-I & Nav Kiran-II and operationalized Half way/Long stay homes for women at Sector-3, Rohini in a function organized by Department of Social Welfare of Government of NCT of Delhi. On this occasion, Deputy Speaker, DLA and Area MLA Ms. Rakhi Birla was also present.

After dedicating these homes in the service of citizens of Delhi, Shri Rajendra Pal Gautam said that the need for such Half Way Homes is felt, as the community at large is still hesitant in accepting such persons into its fold. The Homes would provide facilities to such treated and controlled mentally ill persons as well as counseling for them and their families to facilitate reintegration with family/society. They would also provide medical advice/treatment relating to their illness so that periodic or occasional psychiatric disturbances can be managed.

The Half Way Home is meant to provide a facilitating mechanism for rehabilitation of persons whose mental illness is treated and controlled after their discharge from mental hospitals. The aim and objective of the scheme is to provide social integration and socio-economic rehabilitation of mentally improved patients.
