Traffic mayhem is a menace. Everyday many lives are lost and people become disabled due to road accidents. These result in loss of livelihood and affect the entire family. But the tragedy can be prevented by spreading awareness about various aspects of road safety. Little measures or respect for traffic rules can go a long way in saving precious lives. In view if this scenario, Transport Department, Delhi Government has decided to intensify the awareness generation campaign to make Delhiites more cognizant about the traffic rules.

 

The Department has initiated a multi-pronged campaign that will appeal to the people from all walks of life in the capital. During this traffic education campaign, the Enforcement Teams of Transport Department will be present at various locations along with the Civil Defence Volunteers of District Administration to sensitize people about the traffic rules.

 

The campaign will take place concurrently with the Road Safety Week that is to be observed from 11th to 17thJanuary 2015. To amplify the outcome and ensure maximum reach, a media campaign will be rolled out simultaneously in print, radio, outdoor and social media platform.

 

Shri Kapil Sharma of Comedy Nights has agreed to be associated as a Goodwill Ambassador with this campaign.  The adverts will talk to the audience in a humorous tone, motivating people not to become a ‘Ghanchakkar’ on road, conform to the traffic rules, avoid causing traffic hazard. It will focus on various issues like drunk driving, honking, using zebra crossing, slow driving near schools and colleges, wearing seat belts, helmets and other allied subjects.

 

Along with the print advertisements, banners and standies will be displayed in all DC Offices to disseminate the message. A Workshop titled ‘Road Safety is not just a slogan, it’s a way of life’ on road safety and security will be organized on 15th January, 2015, in which the drivers of private and public vehicles, school children and ordinary people would be made fully conversant with all the traffic rules, particularly the rights of pedestrians. This drive will help increase mass consciousness about traffic rules in Delhi.
