New Delhi 25th September, 2014
The Government of NCT of Delhi has constituted a three member committee for suggesting safety norms for Planning and Designing of Metro Station and Tunnels in the capital. The Transport Department today issued an order in this regard. The three member committee will comprise Dr. G. C. Misra, Chief Fire Officer, Delhi Fire Service, Sh. A. K. Singh, Executive Director/Electrical, DMRC and Smt. Papiya Sarkar, Chief Architect, DMRC. The committee will submit its report in three months.
No fire safety norms for metro station and tunnels exist in country. DMRC therefore, adopted National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 130) guidelines for planning and designing of metro station and tunnels. These norms were developed in the United States. Most of the countries that have developed Metro Systems have evolved their own norms and standards to suit the specific condition and requirement of the country.
DMRC has now gained enough experience and is in a position to develop fire safety norms which will be more suitable to our conditions and can act as guidelines or other metros coming up in the country. For this purpose the Government of NCT of Delhi has constituted a committee for suggesting safety norms for Planning and Designing of Metro Station and Tunnels.
