New Delhi: Sh. Kapil Mishra, Hon’ble Chairperson, Delhi Jal Board and Minister of Water, Govt. of  NCT of  Delhi, inaugurates the Rain Centre on 12th July, 2016 at 5.00 PM in R.K Puram, Sector-7 , Delhi in presence of CEO, DJB Sh. Keshav Chandra, and other senior officials of Delhi Jal Board.

 

Delhi Jal Board has taken proactive measures to spread awareness regarding the need to adopt Rainwater Harvesting among the people of Delhi. All the stakeholders are to come forward for implementation of Rain water harvesting. In pursuance to recommendations and outcome of the workshop on Rain Water Harvesting jointly organised with Delhi Dialogue Commission, Delhi Jal Board has made designs of Rain Water Harvesting Structures, much simpler and has now set up three Rain Centres at R. K. Puram,  Lajpat Nagar and Dwarka to create large scale awareness in order to facilitate people to implement Rain water harvesting.

 

Rainwater Harvesting is a simple, economical and eco-friendly technique of preserving every drop of water by guiding the rainwater that falls through small diameter pipes to water chambers ultimately recharging groundwater. With an ever growing population, there is an increasing burden on the available water resources. In such a scenario, Rainwater Harvesting is the need of the hour. Some of the benefits of rainwater harvesting are improvement in the quality of ground water, reduction in soil erosion, and reducing flooding of roads, etc.

 

The NGO engaged for managing the Rain  currently, working in the field of water conservation and Rain water harvesting to run the Rain Centers for the purpose. It would impart training to local plumbers and masons and will create consumer friendly web application for design and understanding of RWH system including their maintenance, taking into account the DJB’s Guidelines on RWH. It will be involved in creating public awareness and promoting community participation to implement Rainwater Harvesting in South-West and South Districts of Delhi.

Delhi Jal Board has provided standard designs for Rainwater Harvesting Structures on its website www.delhijalboard.nic.in for public facilitation. Delhi Jal Board has taken many steps to sensitize people in Delhi about the need to adopt Rainwater Harvesting. Rainwater harvesting is an age old technique of conserving water and it needs to be inculcated into the day-to-day habits, to arrest the falling ground water tables all over the city.
