FAKE CALL CENTRE UNEARTHED WITH THE ARREST OF TWO.
SWINDLED AMOUNT TO THE TUNE OF ONE CRORE ON THE PRETEXT OF LUCRATIVE TOUR PACKAGES AND INSURANCE POLICIES.
LAPTOP, WALKIES, WRITTEN MATERIAL RECOVERED.
New Delhi: Crime Branch in association with Gujarat Police has busted a fake call centre operating in Mayur Vihar Delhi with the arrest of two cheats namely Amit Sharma (28 yrs) r/o Mishra Market, Kartar Nagar, Delhi and Ajeet Thakur (22 yrs) r/o Sonia Vihar Delhi.
INCIDENT:
The victim Champak Lal r/o Surender Nagar, Gujarat, reported that he had received a call from one Kamal Malhotra, for restoring his lapsed Bajaj Allianz insurance policy by paying Rs 2 lac. The caller claimed himself to be the director of IRDA and gave account numbers of ICICI bank for depositing the amount by cheque. The victim fell into the trap and he was duped to the tune of Rs 24.7 lac on one pretext or the other by the caller. On realizing the fraud, a case FIR No. 13/16 dt. 21.01.2016 u/s 420/406/414 IPC was got registered by him at PS Surender Nagar, Gujrat. It was further reported that various other persons have been cheated by the same fraudsters on the pretext of lucrative insurance policies and tour packages.
OPERATION:
Gujarat Police sought assistance from Crime Branch, Delhi for tracing out the cheats and accordingly, a team of Central Range led by ACP H.M. Bakshi comprising of Inspr Subhash Vats, SI Lokender, ASI Yaspal and Vinod, HCs Dinesh, Pawan, Pramod, Sudhir, Sanjay Tyagi, Ct Anil, Ghanshyam, Satender and Neeraj was constituted under the supervision of Addl.DCP S.K.Singh. The team in association with Gujarat Police analyzed the record of phone numbers used by the accused persons and gathered information about the accused persons. Flat No, Akash Darshan Apartments, Mayur Vihar Phase I, Delhi was identified by the team as the place from where the fake calls were generated. A raid was organized at the given place where the accused Amit Sharma and Ajeet Thakur were found present and a full fledged call center was being operated. 20 walkie talkies of different companies were installed in the work stations and one lap top, one CPU, bio-data files, bill books, staff attendance register, written material, two cheques of Bank of Baroda and Dena banks, etc. were also recovered. It was also informed that the call centre was run by accused Kishan Pal Singh @ Vikas, Amit, Ajeet Thakur who had enrolled about 25 boys/girls as tele-callers. The tele-callers are assigned certain landline numbers of Gujarat, obtained from BSNL directory and other sources. They were instructed to call the assigned telephone numbers and offer specific packages for selling insurance policies with lucrative bonus and tour packages. Typed script was given to them by Kishan Pal Singh and Amit for having conversation with the targeted persons. The addresses and bank account numbers for deposing cash/cheques were given by Kishan Pal @ Vikas and Amit directly from their phones. Accused Kishan Pal had left the call centre before arrival of the team who is still at large.
INTERROGATION:
On sustained interrogation of the accused persons, it has been revealed that they were running the fake call centre at the above place for the last six months. The SIM cards used by the tele-callers were obtained on fake Ids. They would offer fake insurance policies with lucrative bonus and tour packages etc. to the potential customers and induce them to deliver cheques or deposit cash/cheque in various bank accounts which were also being opened on fake IDs. They preferred targeting victims from remote areas in Gujrat so that they are not traced. It is further revealed that accused persons have cheated the peoples to the tune of Rs. One crore in the last six months. They used to keep changing their place of operation to avoid the detection by the police. The accused persons have been arrested by the Gujarat Police and further investigation is being done by them. Efforts are being made to nab other members of the racket.
