JHARKHAND VIBRANT TEXTILE CRAFT SHOWCASED BY DESIGNERS VARIJA BAJAJ AND RINA DHAKA AT THE ONGOING SURAJKUND CRAFTS MELA
Faridabad: Designers Varija Bajaj and Rina Dhaka showcased the rich textile craft of Jharkhand through a fashion show at the on going Surajkund International Crafts Fair. Both designers beautifully redefined the traditional textile in the modern context.
Jharkhand Silk Textile and Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd., also known as JHARCRAFT under Jharkhand government announced their big association with designer Varija Bajaj by launching the label “VARIJA for JHARCRAFT”. Jharcraft being the largest producer of tussar silk and ahinsa silk supports several craftsmen in the rural areas, based on Sericulture, Handloom, and Handicraft.
On this occassion Mr. K.Ravi Kumar, IAS, Managing Director, Jharcraft said “We are extremely proud to be associated with designer Varija Bajaj who has transformed our traditional craft and given it a whole new perspective”.
Under “VARIJA for Jharcraft” at the Surajkund Crafts Mela designer Varija Bajaj showcased three very interesting collections.
ChhauSavaar– the most colourful collection made by block printed fabrics from Jharcraft. The sillhoutte and colours were inspired by the magical spirit of the famous Chhau Dance of Jharkhand. Secod collection Poornamrita-Literal meaning “Drink of the Gods that grant them immortality”. This collection defined the immortality of the rich art and craft of Jharkhand . Tussar Silk or Ahimsa Silk made from the left over cocoons of the silk worm form the very foundation of this immortal craft.Third collection Jonah-inspired by the Jonah Falls in Jharkhand, third collection is flamboyant with cascading silhouettes. With natural colours of mud brown,stone grey and white water this collection is predominant with jute silk and Tussar with Printed folk warli motifs.
Shri.Ram Bilas Sharma( Haryana Tourism Minister) , Mrs. Seema Trikha (Chief Parliamentary Secretary),Shri.Rahul Sharma (Secretary Tourism for Jharkhand) Shri. Kishan Prasaad Baghmere(Director-Jharkhand Tourism) highly appreciated the association of Jharcraft with designer Varija Bajaj and applauded the collection showcased.
The event was beautifully organised by PHD Chambers and executed by Showcraft productions for Johar Jharkhand at Surajkund International Crafts mela.
