New Delhi, Oct 18 : The Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) celebrated the World Food Day at its Corporate Office, New Delhi as well as at some of its Regional Offices. Worldwide 16th October is celebrated as World Food Day because on this day in 1945 the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of U.N. was founded with the aim to heighten public awareness of the world food problem and strengthen the solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty. The focus of this year’s celebrations as announced by FAO was “Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition”.
In the function organized on the occasion at the CWC’s Corporate Office, U.K.S. Chauhan, IAS, Joint Secretary (Policy & FCI), Departmentof Food & Public Distribution was the Chief Guest and also delivered a talk on “Increasing Food Production and Improving Marketing System for Food Security”. B.B. Pattanaik, Managing Director, CWC also addressed the officials on the occasion.CWC, which has currently a storage capacity of 10.6 million tonnes, gives priority for scientific and preservation of foodgrains with the objective to reduce the post harvest losses. The World Food Day is celebrated every year by CWC to renew its pledge for better storage and preservation of foodgrains and to contribute towards National Food Security
